Board Member
John is a qualified Automotive Diesel Mechanic and a licensed Commercial Pilot. He has been an Anglican priest for over 53 years, working in parishes in New Zealand and Labrador, northeastern Canada. John has also been an RNZAF chaplain for 23 years, with his final appointment as Principal Defence Chaplain to the NZ Defence Force in 2009.
John and Pam married 54 years ago and have two children: Carol a nurse in remote parts of Australia and David, who after 20 years in the NZ Army, now works as a manager for Horizons Regional Council in Palmerston North.
Always interested in aviation, John was a member of MAF Youth in the late 1960s and became a Board member in 2009. He was Chief Pilot/Flight Assessor for six years, from 2013 to 2019. In this role, he put candidate pilots through their paces to gauge their suitability for bush flying. John continues to serve on the board, using his many years of experience and wisdom.
