Jonny and Glenys Watson, along with their children, Katie, Alana, Danielle and Lucy are from Hamilton, New Zealand.
Jonny and Glenys were both born and raised in Christian families who taught them what it meant to love and follow Jesus. They married in 2004. Following the death of Glenys’ father in 2012, they were challenged on how they were using their gifts for God’s glory, and started their journey with MAF which saw them move to Papua New Guinea in 2017.
Glenys became interested in aviation during her high school years, and has worked as an Air Ambulance pilot, commercial pilot and instructor in Hastings and then Hamilton, before spending 9 years focussed on raising and caring for their four daughters. In her leisure time she loves spending time with her family, gardening, walking and tramping, sewing, and drinking good coffee with friends. She finds it a joy to serve the remote people in PNG as a pilot.
Jonny grew up in Christchurch. He has worked as an Engineering Geologist for 14 years in Napier and Hamilton, and has a particular interest in slips. He loves to play and follow all kinds of sport, particularly football. In PNG, while juggling the responsibilities at home, he is also able to use his skills as a Technical Advisor with the Rural Airstrip Agency (RAA).
