Born in the UK, Mike came to New Zealand with his family as a child and lived in Timaru, Lyttleton and Christchurch. It was in Christchurch he went to university and met Gabrielle, and they married in 1993.

After graduating from university, Mike trained as an air traffic controller before moving into Air Traffic Control (ATC) Operational Safety Management. When the opportunity arose to live and work overseas, Mike and his wife, Gabrielle, relocated to Bahrain with their children, Bridie and Jack, where he held a variety of air traffic management roles. The family’s international journey later took them to Dubai, where Mike continued his career in aviation safety.

Gabrielle trained as a teacher and studied Classics and Ancient History at university. While raising their family and creating a stable home through each international move, she also gained a diverse range of professional and volunteer experience in emergency response coordination, library and collection management, and prison ministry.

With Bridie and Jack now grown, Mike accepted a role with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Quebec, Canada, where he worked in the Airspace Modernization and Optimization Section. He later returned to the private sector, focusing on aviation safety and compliance, before applying to serve with MAF.

After more than 30 years in international aviation, Mike and Gabrielle felt called to serve through MAF, using their skills and experience to help bring God’s love and compassion to some of the world’s most isolated communities. They would greatly appreciate your prayers as they begin this new chapter.
